This guide seeks to be a tool for teachers and parents with the aim of educating future generations in more precise concepts about three basic ideas in relation to our forests and forest fires:
- They are natural ecosystems that have been modified intensely by the inhabitants of the Mediterranean regions for thousands of years, in other words, they are anthropic forests. They are neither virgin nor wild forests.
- We need to refocus our efforts on the cause of propagation, and not ignition, as is currently the case. This idea is directly related to forest management and the commitment to a sustainable rural economy that creates a landscape that is resilient to large forest fires.
- See fire as a natural and common disturbance in Mediterranean regions. Understand that fires are part of our ecosystem and ensure the perpetuation of some of the species that live in it.
