FIRE ESCALATION BY DOWNSLOPE WINDS

By harrisonrainewf on

This Hazard Note released from Bushfire and Natural Hazard CBC describes a potential "watch out" situation for all wildfire operations. It describes a unique influencer in wildfire behavior described as the "mountain waves" and subsequent downhill winds. Briefly, the note describes oscilliations in the atmosphere caused by mountain topography that results in strong downhill winds. These winds can drive severe and intense wildfire behavior.
